The Role of Carbon Removals

Achieving Europe’s 2050 climate goals means balancing unavoidable emissions with permanent carbon removals. The EU aims to geologically sequester 50 million tonnes of industrial CO₂ annually by 2030, including 5 million tonnes from carbon removals.

Danube CCS is advancing one of Europe’s most scalable solutions: permanent geological storage of biogenic CO₂ from fermentation. The Danube Removals Project alone can deliver more than 10% of the EU’s 2030 industrial removal target, setting a new standard for affordable, verifiable climate impact at scale.
